Don't Freak!

Yeah, who would think that this ad campaign wouldn't freak people out? Is this a total reenactment of 2001? Are they living in a Sept. 10 world, or did Louis Caldera find a new job that quick?

Movies

My friends and family usually like to discuss movies that they've seen. When I'm in the room the conversation tends to get trickier because I am not the slave to Hollywood they would like me to be. (That sentence will infuriate some of them, I'm sure. *Wave*)

Friend/Family: "I really enjoyed her in Australia."
Me: "I haven't seen that."
Friend/Family: Loud sigh. "We'll have to rent that later."
Me: "I have it at home, just haven't had the time to watch it."
Friend/Family: Louder sigh.

Sunday, after going to the mall with my sister (and buying really cute sandals), we went to pick up a movie. She literally could have picked up most anything and it wouldn't have been seen by me.

Now, occasionally I do get to see movies before they have reached the equivalent of their expiration date. I did see "He's Just Not That Into You" before it left theaters. I've seen a few movies right after they were released to DVD, not that I could name one right now.

My sister and I settled on "Bride Wars," with Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, as neither of us had yet seen that one. It was cute! I couldn't help but think how much Kate Hudson is looking like her mother these days. Acting was fine, story line was good. It covered a wide range of topics involved with weddings and relationships. Generally, I liked it! I don't know if I'd buy it unless it hits the <$5 bin, but I could say that about all movies. *Grin* I can now have a discussion about this movie or at least be in the room when friends or family do without the excessive sighing that is the normal.

If any of you have any movie suggestions, I'm all ears!

Memorial Day Weekend

This morning (Sunday), I got to do something I've been rarely able to do for a long time: I made breakfast. Not some sissy breakfast, either! Real breakfast! With grease and everything!! Eggs, bacon, potatoes (fried in the grease of the bacon), the whole heart attack waiting to happen!

My friend came into town and I got to cook for her. I also made my strawberry dessert. (Cream cheese, whipped cream, strawberries on a graham cracker crust. The only healthy was the berries, but don't worry, their health benefits were FAR outweighed by the other artery clogging stuff.) Jason cooked steaks and corn-on-the-cob on the grill. (Again, the healthy corn was out shined by the butter/salt and, of course, the steak.)

Tomorrow, my sister and I are most likely going to hit some of the Memorial Day sales and eat some nasty fast foods, too! Holidays are fun times!

For those of you, which is most likely most of you reading my silly insignificant type, who know me and care about my general health and well-being, my diet will return to the more sane and balanced as of Tuesday morning. Well, except the Coca-Cola addiction. *grin*

My trouble with blogging

I mean well. I truly do. But, the biggest problem I have with doing anything is the overwhelming issue I have with choice!

I ran into this issue when Jay (the now 13-yr-old) came into my life. I had to be the decision maker! (Yes my husband got to make them too.) And it affected a PERSON other than me! It's amazing I didn't have a break down right then.

Yes, I know, choosing to blog about stuff doesn't really have the potential for child neglect or endangerment that raising a child does. It still affects real people. Words matter, or so we're told.

Really, why should I worry about other people reading my thoughts and opinions? Don't I have conversations with people all the time in the real world? Isn't it a bit egocentric to think that anyone even cares what I think or why I think it? I mean, I suppose those who consider themselves my friends would: that's why they associate with me, I would hope. Unless they all really have some ulterior motive!! (Yeah, I should lay off the paranoia, it is not popular nor healthy.)

What it comes down to is: I have to actually make a choice about what to write about and then actually put my thoughts out in a legible manner. And, I admit, I do want to be e-popular. Not in the "poke your friends/family/others in the eye to get attention" way either! I want to say "here's the topic of discussion going around lately and what I think about it, now what do you say."

Also, I think if I use this blog as an exercise in writing, I just may overcome the block my brain seems to have when I wish to express my thoughts in a readable manner. Right now, I mainly have writing skills resembling a mental disorder. (My dad calls it "busy brain.")

Oh, look! Shinies!!

Silent Change

Today, I noticed a change. Let me be straight, I don't like change, even when it comes in the form of slow-motion to be hardly noticed. In fact, it is the slow-motion as to be hardly noticed until it is too late change I hate the most!

For about a year, the fellow who sold our two vehicles to us has been calling us daily with the "new incentives" GM has for existing owners. These ranged from simple coupons for cheaper oil changes to cash back for GM trade ins to the latest "recession incentives." (Recession incentives would be the "if you find yourself on hard times, the company agrees to make your car payment for 6/9/12 months and if you're still in hard times after that they will accept your vehicle back with no negative marks on your credit.") Every day! Sometimes twice if my husband or I were not available to take the call.

Now, I like Tony, the car dealer. I feel like in the three years we've done business with him that I've watched his kids grow through his pictures in his office. These calls seemed to expose a desperation for our business to continue, and up to last month, had our credit score been better, we may just have helped him out, just because he's been a great acquaintance. We do like helping out those in need, after all. It's part of what makes America a great place!

Today, I realized I hadn't heard from Tony in about a month. It didn't register because my life has been sort of (read: VERY) hectic as of late. (Story for another blog entry later.) But, as things sort of settle down enough for me to breathe, the calls' absence is deafening.

GM has to lower its debt burden and employee costs in the government restructure.

The possibility of Tony's dealership being closed down is looming over his head. Little wonder why the man has stopped being so forward with his business practices.

Close Call

My dad works for Norfolk Southern Railroad and is the one who sent this to me. He is the Supervisor for the maintainers, or the ones who deal with the mess when ignorant people who think they're faster than a locomotive aren't. Their job is to keep up the crossings, so that people have fair warning of the massive weight of a train is coming your way. This idiot was almost owned by natural selection.

Today's Obsession with Youtube

While I don't necessarily agree with all the content posted by the maker of the linked video, this is a great video remix!

Kudos!

Safety First

News 8 has the details.

Basically, they recently revealed serious flaws in the way the FAA licenses mechanics who fix planes.

I'm sorry, but if believing that the people responsible for maintaining vehicles of that magnitude should be able to comprehend the language the manuals are written in is racist, then consider me racist!

First Post

OK, a little nervous about the whole blog thing.

Here's hoping that I can keep up with it a tad bit more than all my other attempts at blogging. :D
